Homosexuality in Taiwan

Question 1

The attitudes about most family operate under a “don’t-ask, don’t-tell” policy is not correct. In my opinion, the best way is communicate with each family member, then as the family members must to accept and face together that situation. Maybe it’s difficult to taking it, but I concerned the power of family’s LOVE and TIME can change everything.
During the 2004-2008 we can find up that the time have changed albeit slowly. There is a movement of gay of men and women coming out of the closet as they find a community of supporters from around the whole island. Taiwan is also seeing more and more social setting that is tolerant and may even offer encourage, but still has a long way to go.
As the report said most pressure on Taiwan’s gay men and lesbians comes from their family, definitely, because the “HOME” has something special meaning for Chinese, it mean to continue the family line by producing a male heir is a big event in the Chinese families. Therefore, in Taiwan culture doesn’t have religious baggage like in West.
The reputation in Chinese culture is more important, no wander, there is a saying, “Don’t wach your duty cloth line in public.”

Question 3

the story
Homosexuals Better Off In Taiwan Than China
It talks about homosexuals better off in Taiwan than China from VOA. (Voice of America)
Members of Taiwan gay and lesbian, bisexual and transgender community have held a parade in Taipei 27 September 2008. It obvious Taiwan is more accepting of homosexuals than China, where demonstrations of any kind of forbidden. Despite lining social stigma surrounding the issue of homosexuality gay and lesbian awareness is alive and well in Taiwan, which many consider to be one of the forerunners of gay right in Asia. However, a parade organizer about the homosexual right in the Taiwan is still a long way to go.

Honestly, the parade in Taiwan is certainly better than China. The principle reason I think that Taiwan is an island. Since the ancient time there were so many people coming in and going out of Taiwan, so that made Taiwanese had the open mind and widely breadth of mind could accept the different cultures cerebration from every country. Although, Taiwan can accept it, doesn’t mean every Taiwanese. In general, young people have more favorable views of homosexuals than older people, maybe the young people they have homosexual friends, colleagues, or family members. We should not use the peculiarity eyes to look them; they are also mankind and creation by God. Furthermore, the greater society acceptance of gays and lesbians would be a bad thing for the country, maybe it would be a good thing.

gays and lesbians have the same values and were taught by the same system that straight men and women are taught under, too. i don't understand why a society has to deny them their basic rights. true, it doesn't seem natural, but it's jsut discrimination all over again if we don't accept them.
